  • Crochet Lessons

Crochet Lessons for absolute beginners. I have recently been made aware of the need for someone locally to teach crochet to many. This has been something I’ve always been drawn to, just never thought about how to begin. Therefore I have the Youtube channel.

I had 2 friends approach me about this in one day, then the opportunity came for me to teach one friend. That was a success! and now more opportunity has arrived. I am holding a class at one of the local libraries on Thursday afternoons in July. I may also start another night class very soon.

FOR my class at the library, I wanted to make available a special set of videos. (Not yet published!) (COMING SOON!!)

And FOR my class of any time, a list of all the things you need or things that make crochet more convenient. Yarn is a very important part of that! Most of my yarn I thrift. Some I get on Amazon. Hobby Lobby and Michaels have some great selections as well as Walmart. Recently I scouted out Dollar Tree and found a small selection. So, no matter where you shop for yarn, you will find all different kinds. I personally love redheart. I have used many brands, and many textures, but that one is a dependable brand. Not many skeins have cuts within and many many knots, (once you shop around and use many, you will know what I mean!) Bernat is a great brand also but all I’ve used there is the blanket and the baby blanket.

Other than that, get adventurous! find one you love. I do not love working with chenille. It is soft and beautiful, but hard to work with in my opinion.

Please check out my YouTube channel for more tutorials!

Other tools you need, I will list here, with Amazon Affiliate Links. Once you click on those, and make a purchase, I will get a portion from Amazon for sending you to them to shop. This does not cost you anything more. and I thank you for clicking on my links!

  • Flower Burst Bucket Hat!

This fun bucket hat is one of my favorites for late fall and early spring for those days in the sun. You can easily make this your beach hat! This project is fun and easy. If you can follow along, lets make your fun spring hat! This is a full crochet tutorial/ directions for this fun project!

You will need a variety of colors of your favorite yarn, your favorite crochet hook (size G if you are new), a yarn needle, and some scissors. That is all!

First you will make 5 flower burst squares. You need one for the top, and 4 for the sides. You can change the size by adjusting the size of the squares. If you can’t picture that then keep reading. Directions for the flower burst will be below.

The squares in this Pink/ Red and white directly above only have the 3 colors. I made this one a small basket, but this could be a child’s hat. The one in the first picture has the first 3 colors in the flower burst. Pink/ Red and white. with a fourth color which adds an inch around each side of the square, making it an adult hat.

If you prefer to watch a video on how to make this childs hat, click here.

If you’d like to see the adult hat come together, click here.

    For written instructions, continue on!

Make your Magic Ring. Chain 3 from the ring.  Pull ring tight and slip it together.

Make 11 DC in the ring. Slip together

Chain 3, and in that same space do 2 DC then chain 2.

*In the top of the next DC from the first row, do 3 DC in that stitch.  Ch 2 , Repeat from * Until you have 12 clusters.

To make the circle you now have into a square. We will start where you are at. Chain 1 , 3 SC in the ch 2 space.

Ch 1,  Then in the Next ch2 space : SC, DC, TC, Ch2, TC, DC, SC.

**Ch 1, in the next ch2 space 3SC,

Ch 1, in the next ch 2 space 3SC,

    Ch 1, In the next Chain 2 space you are making a corner. So 1SC, 1DC, 1TC Ch2, 1TC, 1DC, 1SC

    Ch 1, Repeat from **

Continue until you reach the end and slip together!

To make this an adult version, Do One more row of DC around as you would in a traditional Granny Square. With 3 DC in each chain space and 3 DC 2Ch 3DC for each corner.

The joy of this hat is you can make it in many colors to suit many styles. And if you are feeling really brave you can turn this flower burst into an Afghan!

Thank you for being here! I hope this is helpful! If you have any questions or you’d like to show me your crochet. Please feel free to reach out @ wildlyartisticliving@gmail.com

Let’s keep being wildly ARTISTIC! Happy Crocheting!

How to Crochet a Beautiful Ruffle Hat: A Step-by-Step Guide

Crocheting a ruffle hat is an enjoyable and rewarding project that adds a whimsical touch to any outfit. With its fun layers of soft ruffles, this hat is perfect for both adults and children and can be made in various colors to match different seasons and occasions. Whether you’re a seasoned crocheter or just starting, this project is simple to follow, and you’ll love the final result!

    Materials Needed:

    • Worsted weight yarn (approximately 200 yards for an adult size)
    • Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0mm)
    • Scissors
    • Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
    • Stitch marker (optional)

    Stitches Used:

    • Chain (ch)
    • Slip stitch (sl st)
    • Single crochet (sc)
    • Half double crochet (hdc)
    • Double crochet (dc)

    Basic Crochet Ruffle Hat Pattern:

    1. Start with the Foundation Chain:
      • Begin by making a foundation chain of 72 chains (this will vary depending on your head size). This chain should be a bit loose to allow for stretch and comfort.
    2. Forming the Hat’s Base:
      • Join the last chain to the first chain with a slip stitch, making a loop (be careful not to twist the chain).
      • In round 1, work 1 single crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch at the end of the round.
      • For round 2, work 1 half double crochet (hdc) in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to close.
    3. Building the Hat’s Height:
      • For rounds 3-6, alternate between single crochet and half double crochet in each stitch. This will form the solid, sturdy part of the hat.
      • Continue in rounds, increasing the height until you reach a comfortable length for the base of the hat.
    4. Creating the Ruffles:
      • Now it’s time to start adding the fun part: the ruffles!
      • On round 7, create a ruffle by working 3 double crochet stitches (dc) into each stitch from the previous round. The ruffles will begin to take shape as you work along the row.
      • For more dramatic ruffles, you can add more than 3 dc per stitch.
    5. Finishing Touches:
      • Once you’ve completed your ruffles, join the last stitch with a slip stitch, leaving a long tail of yarn.
      • Cut the yarn and use your yarn needle to weave in any loose ends.
    6. Optional Additions:
      • To give your ruffle hat an extra flair, consider adding a pom-pom or a decorative crochet flower to the top. You can also experiment with different yarn colors to create a striped or gradient effect.

    Tips for Success:

    • Gauge: Make sure to check your gauge before starting to ensure that the hat will fit properly. You can adjust the foundation chain to make it larger or smaller as needed.
    • Ruffle Placement: If you prefer a more subtle ruffle, reduce the number of dc stitches per stitch.
    • Yarn Choices: Soft, fluffy yarns such as alpaca, merino, or even cotton can add extra charm to your hat.

    Final Thoughts:

Crocheting a ruffle hat is a fun way to get creative with your crochet skills. The combination of texture, color, and ruffle detail makes for a standout accessory that’s perfect for any occasion. You can easily customize this hat by changing up the yarn colors or adding embellishments. Whether you’re making it for yourself or as a gift for someone special, this crochet ruffle hat will surely be a favorite!
